Chuuk

Future planned developments include a fiber-to-the-home network on the main island of Weno, which will link most homes, businesses, schools and government departments to the submarine cable. Outer islands will be connected via a planned VSAT network, which will use satellite technology.

The government of the Federated States of Micronesia and the World Bank have joined forces to improve connectivity in FSM. They are jointly financing the construction of a submarine fiber optic cable connecting Chuuk to Pohnpei which became operational on April 27, 2019. This cable connected Chuuk with the existing HANTRU-1 submarine cable, which travels from Guam to Kwajalein. The fiber optic cable brings ultra-fast internet speeds to the main island of Weno.

FSM Cable Corporation will operate and manage the cable. They act as the Open Access Entity for FSM on behalf of the FSM Government. The Chuuk – Pohnpei Cable (C-P Cable) has a landing station in Chuuk and a landing station in Pohnpei. We will provide milestone updates as the project progresses.
